I had not been to my uncle’s cabin for ages.
This was one of my most favorite places to be in the world.
And that had everything to do with my uncle. This guy was a free spirit and lived on his own terms. My uncle bought twenty five acres of wooded property that was barely on the grid many, many years ago. This is a guy who is not your typical work in the commercial HVAC of an office, nor does he have the typical life. This guy was a writer and a thinker and lived life. He was easily the most unique person I’ve ever met in my life. And when I was in college and a young adult, I was really glad to spend time with that man inside his cabin. This cabin was rustic to be sure. There was no residential HVAC nor were there many frills of any kind. But he had good solid furniture and an amazing wood stove for heating. The guy also had a big garden that produced most of his food. I would get away from college for a weekend to balance my head out in this spot. Well I was stunned that my uncle left this property and this cabin to me. And I’m thrilled to be able to update it a bit so it’s comfortable for my family and I. I had the local HVAC company come out and install a ductless heat pump so we had some air conditioning in the summer. We also upgraded the furnishings and the kitchen as well. It’s a wonderful spot and I’m just so grateful to my uncle for passing it down to me.
