An HVAC conundrum concerning my dog

I didn’t want to leave my dog so very uncomfortable, but I also didn’t want to spend all the money on heating.

Recently, I’ve been thinking of all sorts of ways to cut costs. I want to slim down my budget because I find myself far too short on money by the end of the month. I mean, I’m getting by, but it’s only paycheck to paycheck, practically speaking. I knew that there were ways that I could save that I wasn’t paying attention to. I’m not exactly thrifty, so it was time to get thrifty! I cut down my grocery bill by cutting out the luxury stuff, or, at least most of it. I cut out my subscriptions to services I was barely using, including a couple of streaming services I really didn’t need after all. Finally, my thoughts turned to HVAC. I wondered if it was possible to cut down on my air conditioning usage and my heating usage throughout the year. Now, if I didn’t have a dog, it would be a no-brainer. I would simply adjust the thermostat every time I left the house in the morning. I’m gone for the entirety of the day at least five days a week anyway. I would save a lot by practically shutting the HVAC system off until I returned. However, I didn’t feel that I could do that in good conscience. For example, right now, I know my dog would freeze in my house if I didn’t have the heat on during the day. I don’t have the best insulation in my home, and I could tell that he really loves the furnace, because he snuggles up to the air vents all the time when it’s really really cold out. I didn’t want to leave my dog so very uncomfortable, but I also didn’t want to spend all the money on heating. I realized very quickly that the problem had a very easy solution. I would isolate my dog to one room of the house and put a space heater in there. I would place it in such a way that he wouldn’t be able to reach it to knock it over or anything. That way he can be warm in that one particular room, and the rest of the house wouldn’t be heated for no reason!
