I wish that I would have learned how to fix HVAC units as a kid.
I had every opportunity to learn, but I didn’t take my dad up on any of his offers to teach me.
My dad was an HVAC technician, and my grandfather before him was also an HVAC technician. It was not something that I was ever interested in. Now that I have been trying to fix my air conditioning system for about a month, I really wish that I would have learned so much more from my dad. One of my friends asked me to help them fix their furnace, and I didn’t know what to tell them. My friend just assumed that I knew how to fix HVAC units because my dad was an HVAC technician. I know that he is right. I should know how to do at least some basic HVAC work. My dad offered to teach me so many times, and I just refused. My dad was never the kind of parent to force me to learn things although he always offered to teach us things as he worked. He was really a great father, and I wish that I would have learned some valuable HVAC lessons from him. The only things that I learned from my father were about philosophy and things of that nature, but I could have learned so many more practical skills if I would have listened. HVAC is not something I am interested in, but I do wish that I knew more about it so that I could at least fix my air conditioning unit and help my friend fix his furnace.
