I was meeting my boyfriend after work, so that we can go out for dinner.
He called me two days earlier, and made sure that I didn’t have a late day that evening, and told me he had made reservations.
We were meeting at my favorite restaurant, and I was excited. We hadn’t been to this restaurant for about three months. When I walked into the lobby, my boyfriend was sitting on one of the chairs. His smile was infectious as he looked at me. When we got to our table, I whispered to him that I felt like we were in a sauna. It was so hot and sticky in the restaurant that I could barely breathe. When he said something to the maître d’ about the heat, the maître d’ explained that the AC unit had quit working. They had an HVAC technician working on the AC unit, and they hope to have it repaired within the next 15 minutes. He offered to give us free drinks, and free hors d’oeuvres if we were willing to wait for the AC unit to be repaired. My boyfriend told me that I wouldn’t even notice there was a problem with the AC unit if I would turn around and look at him. When I turned away from the maître d’, I saw my boyfriend down on his knee. He had a ring box open with the most exquisite diamond ring I’ve ever seen in my entire life. Even though the restaurant we were in felt like a sauna, he was right about my not noticing. My tears were not because the AC unit was broken, but out of happiness because I had just become engaged.
