Everyone knows that my husband loves to tinker.
Everyone also knows that when he tries to make repairs, I always end up calling a professional to repair what he is broken while trying to repair something else.
I try not to get upset with him when he tries to project on something that is broken. Normally his projects are benign, but not always. Not too long ago, my husband thought that he should be able to not just clean the furnace, but he could find the reason for the lack of airflow. He was sure our airflow problem was something within the furnace itself, but I had a feeling it was because we needed to have our ductwork cleaned. When I said about cleaning the ductwork, my husband told me he could do it. Unfortunately, he had no idea where to start when it came to cleaning the ductwork. Before I knew what was happening, he was pounding at a piece of ductwork that was connected directly into the furnace in an effort to get it apart. When I asked him if it would be easier to go through the air vents and clean, he said he knew what he was doing. By the time he was done I was hoping that my homeowners insurance would cover the cost of repairing my ductwork. I was totally out of luck when it came to the homeowners insurance, and I knew I was going to need new ductwork for my HVAC system. I knew I should never have said anything to him about our airflow system.
