Is it Necessary to Have Your Ducts Cleaned?

It is recommended to have your air ducts in your home cleaned if there is substantial mold growth, vermin, rodents, or insects in your ducts, or if there is an excessive amount of debris and dust in your ducts.

Mold can cause dangerous conditions in a home. Your family may get sick as a result. Cleaning your air ducts is a good first step, but you must then find the cause of the mold. If you find the source of the mold, you need to fix the problem so that the mold doesn’t return. The first indicator of the presence of vermin, rodents, and insects may be hearing them shuffling around the ducts or noticing their droppings. After cleaning your ducts, you should hire an exterminator to ensure you don’t have an infestation in other parts of your home. Also, make sure that you block any food or water sources that these critters use in your home. That way, they won’t return for a snack. If you’ve lived in your home for a few years without having your air ducts cleaned, there’s probably a lot of dust and debris in them. Check your air filter to see how much dust and debris can accumulate inside your ducts. These allergens should not be inside your home. You can improve your heating and air conditioning system’s efficiency by removing the dust and debris from the ducts. If your HVAC system isn’t clogged up with dust and other allergens, your utility bills will be lower. You can perform a quick investigation yourself if you believe you are experiencing any of these problems but are hesitant to contact a professional. Start by inspecting your duct register or grille – is it discolored or dusty? Remove the cover next and wipe the inside with a rag. Did the inside look dirty? If so, you should consult a trusted HVAC company. Despite the lack of substantial evidence that duct cleaning improves air quality, clogged ducts can negatively impact the efficiency and safety of your heating and cooling system.
