I guess its time to grow up

I lived with my mother and father for 18 years.

  • Mom and dad pretty much did everything for me and all I had to do was keep my room clean.

If the laundry was in the laundry room, mom was happy. When I went off to college, I got a little more independence, however I still had mom and dad to turn to at any time. I took my dirty laundry to their house on weekends, and brought back clean clothes with me when I went back to school. When I graduated, I was hastily thrust into the real world. I blamed mom and dad for not forcing me to have independence sooner and for my lack of responsibility. I then realized I was the one who depended on them too much, even though they sent me to a university that was half a state away. I had to figure out for myself that life wasn’t always going to be simple for me. I hastily realized that I wasn’t prepared for life. I didn’t know what to do with a house either. I called dad and asked him if he would walk me through how to change the air filter in the air conditioning unit. He started to laugh and went on a memory trip when he tried to teach me as a teenager how to do it by myself years ago. He told me how to change the air filter and reminded me that I also had to have the Heating and A/C supplier do routine maintenance on the air conditioning and the furnace. I groaned and asked if he could possibly remind me to call the Heating and A/C corporation? He told me I was an adult now and to write it down on the calendar or to set a reminder in my phone.
