Benefits of heated flooring

I have been thinking about adding heated flooring in our home.

  • There are so many benefits to this category of heating system.

First, the upgrade is quite easy if you have the set up for it. If you own a boiler system, simply connect piping to the machine, install the pipes within your floorboards and you have hydronic heating. The other option is electric heated mats that go under the floors. This is a lot of work for a lake house that doesn’t want to be a construction zone. If you own a boiler or are redoing floors anyway, this is the perfect time. Second, heated flooring doesn’t use air like most systems. That means you aren’t dealing with dirty indoor air pollen levels. The flooring uses water or electricity which is clean to breathe in. You also are not getting the noise that most forced air systems have. Another pro is that the heated flooring warmth stays at the floor level. A oil furnace or fireplace allows the heated air to rise to the ceiling. Not only do you have to set your temperature control higher to accommodate this, but then there are freezing spots in the house. With heated flooring, the heat stays at the floor level and radiant heat even absorbs into stationary objects. Because of this, most people can lower their temperature control a notch or more than one and still be comfortable. Finally, radiant gas gas furnaces also reach to every corner and room of the house. You aren’t getting tepid and freezing spots or rooms that get no heat. It legitimately is the perfect system.
