One thing that was regularly bugging me for the longest time was how long our air conditioner fan would run and run! I could not figure out for the life of me why it needed to run so often.
- No sooner would it turn off, then it would turn back on.
I knew that I must be running up the energy bill with such constant air conditioner use. However, I didn’t have the slightest clue why it was happening so often. I obviously knew that when doors were being opened, and windows were being opened, that the air conditioner would run more often. I didn’t make a habit of opening windows with the air conditioner on, however of course, with our family and friends traveling in and out of the new home so often, the air conditioner was running quite often. The trouble was, it was running even when this wasn’t happening. Finally, I decided to call out an Heating and A/C supplier. He looked at several things to determine what was going on, and his conclusions surprised me. He found several cracks in window and door areas, and determined that the overall insulation of our new home was not reasonable. There wasn’t necessarily anything wrong with the air conditioner plan itself, it was that our new home needed to be weatherproofed and properly insulated. It made a lot of sense when I thought about it. With overheated air seeping in from cracks and the insulation not being enough to keep that overheated air out in general, of course our air conditioner plan was overworking.
