The humidity is not a worry thanks to HVAC cooling

I remember going to my grandma’s house when I was a little kid. This is in the early 70’s. That lady had a tiny little house that was way out in the woods. There wasn’t any sort of residential HVAC at all. But that lady sure was self sufficient. In the winter, she had a small wood stove that she used for heat. My dad and I would cut and stack wood for her so she just had to go to the porch to grab more firewood. And in the summer, it was a parade of fans through her house. There was also always the smell of bleach in the air. That had everything to do with the humidity in this area during the summer. Grandma was always beating back the mold & mildew with bleach and water. We’re lucky that this isn’t something we have to do today. And yet, most of us don’t even realize that without HVAC cooling, we’d be beating back the mold growth as well. That’s one of the great parts about the air conditioning. Not only is it cooling down the house, it’s also balancing the humidity level inside the house as well. And we don’t have to do anything at all. Now there are some thermostats that are really great at measuring and then balancing exactly the right humidity level. Those are a different story but still operate on the same principles. Regardless, I’m just thankful to have the humidity levels taken care of by the HVAC so I don’t have to get tough with mold & mildew.
