When you have to much family and not enough house, something is going to give. We certainly weren’t willing to sacrifice our sanity or the peace of our household. The simple fact was that we had a pair of siblings who just really needed their own room and we didn’t have one. My wife and I discussed this late at night when the only sound you could hear was the air conditioning kicking on. The idea of moving out to a bigger place was an option. But the finances made it much less appealing than staying put. By the time we upgraded the HVAC and the kitchen to get our current house sold, there was no telling how much a bigger place might be. So it just made more sense to stay put and add value to our current house by adding a master suite. And it didn’t hurt our feelings that my wife and I were the recipients of the master suite. With the new addition, the need for more heating and cooling was necessary. I thought they’d just add on to the current ductwork. But adding that much air volume would overwhelm the HVAC unit. So we have a ductless heat pump in the new bedroom instead. And that works out just fine. It’s great because the thing is so efficient but also quite powerful as well. And we have a remote control thermostat if we want it. With the new addition and the ductless heat pump, there is peace once again in the house. The kids all have their own rooms and we have a palace for a bedroom.
