When I was a kid, I had to live without heating and cooling.
Having HVAC technology simply wasn’t an option for my parents.
We were a poor family, and the cost and upkeep of having a heater or air conditioner was more than what my parents were willing to spend. That didn’t stop us from getting ads from heating and cooling businesses. But my parents relented and it wasn’t until I was 18 and got my own place that I got my first HVAC system. The difference was night and day, and once I had one I couldn’t imagine living without one. I got rented my first apartment, and was proud to have a place to call my own. Unlike when I was a child, whenever I was too hot or too cold, I could change the temperature inside with the turn of a dial on the thermostat. This new technology was amazing to me and I couldn’t believe I had never known central heating and cooling until now. The apartment had an amazing electric heater and the A/C was one of the newer more expensive models. Even though it was my first place, I had managed to snag a pretty nice apartment for a good price. I soon learned through research that having a HVAC system also meant upkeep, but I wasn’t worried. There was a heater and a/c business just right across the street from where I lived. So if something were to break the HVAC technician would be here in no time to repair my heater or air conditioning unit.
