I really wish I would have had the HVAC system checked out prior to buying our new home.
- The HVAC system seemed to be in great shape, it turned right on and everything when I tested it.
Well, when we got into the fall season, we called for an HVAC system tune-up. The HVAC professional ended up finding a serious problem. He showed us that there was a crack in the heat exchanger of our gas furnace. I asked how much it would cost to have it fixed, but I didn’t expect he would say that we had to replace the whole HVAC system. I almost fainted, but even my wife said there had to be a way to just get the thing fixed. The HVAC professional explained carefully how foolish it would be to go that route. He said we would end up paying more money for this crucial repair than having a whole new HVAC installed which would last us another 15-20 years. When he put it that way, we felt there was no other option. We considered getting a second opinion, but the HVAC professional seemed to know what he was talking about. So we had a new HVAC installed and our funds were completely tight heading through the months going towards Christmas. At least we managed to restore some of our savings by working some overtime hours at work, but still Christmas was really slim that year. It’s funny though, even though we didn’t have a lot of money, it was one of the best Christmas holidays we ever enjoyed. I think it was actually better when everybody was grateful for having less than normal. We were able to appreciate the small things like having a roof over our head and clothing to wear.
