I was really happy when my wife and I got our first home. It was a place in the country and that’s the type of life we wanted to live. We weren’t too far from town, about 30 minutes. Of course, there was a certain problem. There was only one HVAC company in town and it was one of them old school shops where they tend to take advantage of their customers. Since they had no competition, they were charging an arm and a leg for the little stuff like getting regular HVAC tune-ups before the peak heating and cooling seasons. These guys were serious jerks. When one of the professionals was saying that our furnace needed to be replaced soon, I swore I could see dollar signs in his eyes. I thought our furnace was doing just fine, but suddenly it developed some severe issues. I swore that the HVAC guy must have done something to the system on purpose to force us to upgrade the HVAC. I quit calling them for maintenance after that and I learned how to maintain the system on my own. It was mainly just keeping all the components clean and replacing worn parts, nothing major. Replacing the air filter of course was the easiest part of the maintenance. Eventually, a new HVAC company opened up in town and I called them up. I was happy when they had reasonable prices and their HVAC professionals were not jerks. I was happy with utilizing them for all our HVAC maintenance after that instead of trying to take care of everything on my own.
