I didn’t know what to expect when I first moved in with some roommates.
I just met these guys, but they all were fairly reasonable.
There were some ground rules we all had to make like cleaning up our own messes and taking turns with different chores like cleaning the bathroom. We also agreed on certain temperature control settings with the HVAC system. I took it a step further though and said there was something we all had to pitch in on and that was regular HVAC maintenance. They all wanted to laugh at me but one of them told everybody to listen to what I was saying. I explained that we would actually save money with regular HVAC maintenance because the maintained system would run more efficiently, thus bringing lower energy costs. I also said the landlord should agree to allow us to deduct the extra cost we were paying from our rent and it wouldn’t even be very costly anyway. So everybody pitched in on an HVAC service plan and the HVAC workers did great work on the HVAC system regularly. Everybody couldn’t believe how low the energy bills became and we never had trouble with the HVAC system during the years we all lived together as roommates. It was actually difficult when we all had to choose to go our own ways, but we all knew we weren’t going to live in that rental house forever. Even the landlord was sad when we left because we took great care of the HVAC and kept the house in great condition.
