Sometimes it’s easy to underestimate a home remodeling project.
My wife and I have been home owners for 5 years, and we recently decided to install new flooring in the living room and the dining room.
My wife and I watched a ton of DIY videos and both of us were certain that we would be able to complete the flooring project without a general contractor. After all, we called several general contractors and they wanted $2,000 to install our new flooring. My wife and I were certain that we could handle the job and save that money. We waited until a three-day weekend, so we had plenty of time to work on the flooring. My wife and I looked at everything sitting on the floor and we quickly realized that we were in over our head. We watched all of those videos, but we really didn’t even have the first idea where to begin. We started removing the old flooring and that’s when we realized that we needed a contractor. My wife called a couple of the people that gave us estimates, and we found someone that had availability the following week. We had to dance around the contractors while they worked on our flooring, but the final product is overwhelmingly beautiful. The floor looks great and the general contractor did an amazing job. It’s hard to see any seams and the floor looks flawless. I would have preferred to save the money that we spent on a general contractor, but there is absolutely no way that my wife and I would have done such a nice job on our own.
