I refuse to learn from my dad

I absolutely refused to learn how to service HVAC units from my father, and I regret it a lot now.

My dad was an HVAC technician, and he was a good HVAC serviceman.

My dad was so passionate about HVAC units that he even started his HVAC dealer, but since I was the only child in the family, my dad dreamed that I would take over the HVAC company one day, and he tried to prepare me for that from the start. As soon as I could hold a flashlight, my dad was trying to teach me how to service HVAC units. As I grew older, he began trying to push me to learn how to service HVAC units. Eventually, I realized that my dad was teaching me how to service HVAC units because he expected me to become an HVAC serviceman and start our own HVAC company one day. Once I realized what was happening, I refused to learn how to service HVAC units. I did not want to be an HVAC serviceman, and I absolutely didn’t want to feel like my whole life was being controlled by my dad! While I couldn’t refuse to help my dad with the HVAC units, I could refuse to remember how to perform even the most basic jobs. Eventually, my dad realized that I did not want to learn how to service HVAC units, and he gave up. As an adult, I regret not studying how to service HVAC units. I do have to spend my money an HVAC serviceman to service all our HVAC units, however that does not bother me. I have a good job, and I do not want to service our own HVAC units! However, I recently learned that my dad used those times to spend time with me, and by refusing to learn how to service HVAC units, I didn’t spend time with him, but now that he passed, I wish I could change how I reacted.
