Fitness class helps to prepare for hiking trip

My wife and I put in lots of overtime.

We saved every extra dime in order to pay for an extensive hiking trip.

Our vacation involved some really challenging hikes & exciting excursions. She and I were looking forward to climbing, kayaking, zip-lining, cycling and some rather demanding hikes. To maximize the potential of the trip, we needed to be in good physical shape. I found an advanced level couple’s fitness class at the nearby gym and signed us up. Because the class was certain to be demanding, I decided to work on my level of fitness before the first session. I asked my wife to go along with me on a few runs and bike rides. She declined, so I went by myself. She wasn’t interested in my suggestion that we do some yoga to improve flexibility. She refused to swim laps in the pool or play tennis. As I expected, the first fitness class was rough. By the end of the hour session, I was wet with sweat, exhausted and sore. My wife didn’t make it through the complete class. She sat down about halfway through and never joined back in. The following morning, we both had some trouble making it up and down the stairs. My whole body was stiff and sore. I was determined to make some improvements before the next class. I stuck with my stretching and exercise program to be ready for it. My wife went back to sitting on the couch and watching TV. She spent hours playing on her computer. She went to one more class with me before quitting. I was without a partner. The instructor helped me out and stayed with it until the end of the sessions. When my wife and I headed off on our trip, I was in fantastic physical shape. I had a great time on all of the hikes and excursions. My wife stayed back at the hotel. By the conclusion of our trip, she and I were no longer speaking to each other.
