Focusing on my health again

I packed my lunch for work rather than eating fast food

Throughout my school years, I was really involved in sports. I was on the soccer team and played basketball, baseball and tennis. I was a member of a competitive volleyball team and we travelled all across the country. Making it onto the college team was a dream come true. The training was super intensive, and the schedule was strenuous. After I graduated and joined the workforce, my life changed quite a bit. I was logging long hours at my desk. I spent five days a week sitting in a chair, looking at a monitor and tapping on a keyboard. By the time I completed the commute home at the conclusion of the day, I was wrecked. I just wanted to get something quick to eat and head to bed. I was no longer exercising or making the effort to eat nutritious meals. It wasn’t long before I put on weight and came down with all sorts of aches and pains. My neck, shoulders and back were frequently sore. I suffered from carpal tunnel syndrome and tennis elbow. My joints were stiff and painful. I had trouble sleeping, was reluctant to get out of bed in the morning and my productivity at work suffered. Since I was stressed and tired all the time, I constantly suffered from headaches. I had problems with my skin and came down with depression. I finally realized that I needed to change my priorities and make my health and fitness a focus. Since I was typically too tired to exercise at the end of the workday, I started setting my alarm hour earlier in the mornings. At first, it was just about impossible to get up and workout. However, I saw that I felt so much better afterward. The extra effort was worth it. I also paid attention to the nutrition of the foods I ate. I packed my lunch for work rather than eating fast food. I created my dinners over the weekend, froze them and made certain I was getting plenty of vitamins and minerals. I lost weight, increased my strength and stamina and started feeling good about myself again.
