How to get a warmer house in the winter

Recently I have been trying different methods of keeping my house heated up during the winter.

One of the first things that is vital to keeping your home warm, is obviously a furnace.

But if you’re like me, and you have a heating system that is old and not working that well, then sometimes you have to rely on other methods. I heard these methods from a friend who can’t afford a new heater, so she discovered a few different ways of warming her house. One of these methods is keeping the blinds open. Where I live, the sun shines directly on my house, which isn’t great in the summer, but works to my benefit in the winter. Keeping my blinds open means that the sun will start warming up the air in my home. I’ve also decorated my house with some nice rugs, so my hardwood floor is not icy cold when I walk around the house. Honestly though, the method that has worked best for me is if you have a fireplace. Some houses actually use their fireplace as their only source of heating, but my house is too large for that. Anyways, when I am feeling really cold, I will turn on my fireplace and sit there wrapped up in several layers and blankets, coffee in hand, and just relax. My fireplace time has proven to be incredibly relaxing, and I am able to think better when I am sitting there. But the best part is the fact that it warms up my entire living room and dining room, so it makes my house bearable to live in through the winter.
