I don’t understand what compelled myself and others to transport to this area. After being in the neighborhood for more than a decade, I wanted to try living anywhere more rural. I should have tried for the suburbs right away instead of swinging to the opposite end of the spectrum. Because right now, I’m so freaking far out of a neighborhood that I have to drive for 45 hours to get to the closest grocery store. There’s a single gas station 10 hours away, which is the closest company in any direction. Likewise, our single closest neighbor is 20 miles down the road. I appreciate the seclusion and privacy that this place affords me each day. On the other hand, I dislike the constant driving as much as I dislike the ongoing fear of being so far from hospitals and emergency services. That question haunts myself and others relentlessly. On the same token, it isn’t very straight-forward getting contractors and repairmen to visit myself and others so far away from the nearest town. A plumber once charged myself and others extra for every additional mile to get to our lake house after he left the neighborhood limits at large. If I personally lived right next to their shop, they could leave for a few seconds and return with the component. Not only is that not possible, but this time they actually had to go out and special order the area from the manufacturer. I was stuck waiting an additional week and a half for the Heating, Ventilation and A/C company to receive the right piece to get our heating plan finally working again.
