As a child, my family lived in super cold weather conditions; Most of the houses way up north in this area did not have central air at all.
So I genuinely had no air conditioning as a kid.
We had ceiling fans in the bedroom as well as a living room, a window air conditioning component in the offices as well as a single fan for the bathroom. I am unsure of the insulation situation from the first floor to the next however my goodness in the Winter time when the heat was on it got dreadfully hot upstairs in the bedrooms. I would need to run my fan on high the entire evening along with the window air conditioning unit! You are not supposed to keep those in all year long, really since snow will end up hanging around on it as well as ruin it! I did not care, I could not handle it. I talked to my mother to leave the window air conditioning unit on all year as well as she reluctantly did; The interesting part of all of it was that the downstairs portion would be still “cold” compared to the upstairs so when I tell you the heat rose, it really rose. It made it so difficult to find a comfortable temperature for us for the total house. I know that one of the largest downfalls of an older home – you never know how it was sealed as well as it does not have a central idea for heat as well as air adore the homes in the south do. Thankfully, my mother was easily alright with leaving the window air conditioning unit in the winter even though it easily wasted so much of her money!
