Setting an example for the kids

Sports have always been a major part of my life.

However, I never really liked practices when I was into high school athletics.

I especially disliked the emphasis on weight lifting. I found it tedious and wasn’t focused on building huge muscles. It gave me an aversion to the gym. Once I graduated from college, I still enjoyed playing tennis, racquetball, and volleyball. I liked to hike, swim and take my kayak out on the lake. I kept active and fit until my responsibilities in life got in the way. Once I bought a house, had a family and got promoted at work, there just wasn’t the time to devote to myself. Exercising was not the priority. I gained weight and lost muscle tone. I wasn’t happy with how I felt. I suffered stiffness in my joints and soreness in my back and neck. I worried about developing serious health issues and knew that I needed to focus more on my health and physical fitness. My wife and I agreed to change our lifestyle. We have no made an effort to eat better. We’ve gotten rid of the sugary snacks and introduced more fruits, vegetables, nuts and lean proteins into our diets. We’ve signed up for a gym membership and go there together four days per week. On the other days, we do something physical. We go for runs or walks, play with the kids or anything that gets our hearts pumping. We’re hoping to not only improve our level of health but set a good example for our children.
